Input Devices

Mouse

A mouse is a pointing device used to move an arrow across your monitor.  

The arrow is moved by detecting movement across a physical surface.  

The arrow can be used to click and open programs on your computer.

Keyboard

A keyboard is a layout of keys on a board used to type text into your computer.

On a keyboard there are characters engraved or printed on the keys.

Webcam 

A webcam can be used to input images or videos on to a computer.

It can also be used to stream live video from one computer to another.

Scanner

A scanner can be used to copy a picture or other still image into something you can view and edit on the computer. 

Digital Camera

A digital camera is used to take photos or videos.

Unlike a webcam it doesn't have to be plugged into a computer to take photos or videos.

To get the photos or videos from a digital camera you have to plug it into a computer via USB.

Mobile Phone

A mobile phone is a wireless device that is used to call or receive calls to or from other telephones.

Some of the newer mobile phones have modems built in and can be used to connect your computer to the internet by using its modem.
